Our Story
In 1951, Bruno immigrated to Indiana from his home in Switzerland. Upon his arrival, he found a job working construction in Gary where he worked for two years. During this time, Bruno took a second job as a baker at the Famous Flamingo restaurant where he continued to practice the trade he originally learned in Switzerland.
While Bruno and Evelyn had started Bruno's in W. Lafayette, Indiana Frank, Bruno's brother in law had just gotten out of the army and was looking for a new venture. Frank Gross managed a local grocery store where Janice was head cashier. As fate would have it they decided to get hitched. It was in 1963 when Bruno approached Frank and Janice to open their own pizzeria in the college town of Oxford, Ohio. Frank and Janice opened in spring of 1963 and would remain working together for the next 32 years. It was in 1995, that their son Roger Perry and his wife Julie would take ownership of the family business. Roger and Julie owned and operated for 25 years. Roger invented our most popular selling appetizer the Famous Bruno Dough.
The Bruno Dough has been featured on ESPN Halftime Eats. In 2020, Roger and Julie's daughter Aryn May and her husband Brooks took ownership. Before taking ownership Aryn had grown up working in the business. While this would be new to Brooks he learned quick, especially because of his love for cooking. Brooks, a Marine Corp. Veteran wasn't new to hard work. While Aryn operates behind the scenes and taking care of their child, you will likely see Brooks throwing the dough on any given night. Our family appreciates your business and are thankful for the many friendships we've made and continue to make over the years. At Bruno's, you're family.
